hello

Gregory M. Barton

1946 - 2006

Born in New York in 1946 Gregory Barton was a commercial photographer and a Helicopter pilot before turning his attention to the Fine Arts. After years of drawing and painting at the University of Houston, a course with James Surls, renowned Wood Sculptor, inspired Gregory and started him on his way to a successful career as a sculptor.
Gregory moved to California in 1979 and completed his Bachelor of Arts under the guidance of James Black at CSUS Hayward. Here he developed his love for Bronze Casting. Gregory also works in stone, steel and wood. He began welding found steel while doing his Master's work at CSUS Sacramento with Gerald Wahlberg.
Gregory's latest works involve the figure in motion, dance movements captured with electronic flash, poses impossible to hold..."because we are all in transition". His abstract figure sculptures are getting longer and thinner and more beautiful. His works have been featured in galleries from France to Canada and throughout Northern California. Barton's Bronzes are on view at the
Barton Gallery.

A Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up by California State University. Please contact them for more information, or mail donations to: Gregory Barton Memorial Scholarship Fund, CA State University, College of Arts & Letters, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819.
